If you are looking for an energy efficient, aesthetically pleasing door option, uPVC entrance doors might be for you.

uPVC stands for Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride, and it was first manufactured in 1935 via electrolysis. It is an increasingly popular option across Australia due to its benefits and cost-effective nature.

The Benefits of uPVC Entrance Doors

If you are looking for front doors Adelaide, uPVC has a number of advantages:

Energy Efficiency

If you are looking for good energy efficiency and thermal insulation, uPVC is an excellent option. uPVC is a low conductivity material making it an effective insulator which is ideal for doors. Its multi-chambered design adds to these properties.

When combined with double glazing, its energy efficiency is increased. This is because the gap between the two sheets of glass reduces heat transfer. By slowing down convection and conduction, your house is kept cool during summer and warm during winter. This will reduce the need for heating and air conditioning, decreasing costs.

If you are looking to decrease chances of mould or damp, uPVC presents a good option as it is condensation resistant.

Durability

On average uPVC doors last 20-30 years, with the best quality uPVC lasting even longer. This means it is very durable. While alternative materials like timber or aluminium may last longer, uPVC is typically cheaper and, consequently, more cost-effective.

Low Maintenance

To maintain your uPVC door, all you need to do is wash it with warm soapy water periodically.

Noise Reduction

Double-glazed uPVC doors are great for those who want to block out traffic and other ambient noise from outside. This is because uPVC is a poor conductor of sound, making it great at noise reduction. Double glazing any windows on uPVC doors adds another layer of soundproofing due to the gap between the two panes muffling sound.

For even better acoustic performance, some homeowners pair their new doors with awning windows or sliding doors to create a more sound-controlled space.

Rust And Corrosion Free

uPVC is resistant to rot and rust, making it a good material for doors and windows. They are also immune to fading and warping.

Why uPVC is Ideal for the Australian Climate

uPVC is an excellent choice for anyone that resides in Australia.

One great advantage is uPVC’s resistance to the sun’s ultra-violet rays. This means your door will not be damaged, deteriorate or fade in the sun.

Additionally, uPVC is resistant to corrosion, which is perfect for Australian properties near the coast. The material is also immune to rust.

uPVC offers fantastic insulation which eliminates everyday condensation. This minimises the chance of mould and damp and makes your indoor air clearer.

Unlike timber, uPVC windows and doors are immune to insect attack. Many homeowners also pair uPVC doors with durable uPVC windows for a consistent and weather-resistant finish.

The Installation Process: A Step-by-Step Guide

Here is a step-by-step guide to installing uPVC front doors in Australia:

  1. To start, we will measure the height and width of the door opening accurately.
  2. Then we work with you to help you choose the right choice of door to suit your home’s aesthetic. We will then order this.
  3. Once your door is delivered, installation can begin.
  4. To start, we will clear the area of any obstruction in the workspace.
  5. We will check the floor level to ensure the sill is level.
  6. Now it is time to remove the existing door. To start, we will remove all the hardware on the door including the door handle, locks and hinges.
  7. If you have screws affixing the door frame to the wall, we will carefully unscrew these.
  8. We will then remove any sealant still keeping the frame affixed to the wall.
  9. If you have a threshold or a sill at the bottom of your door, we will remove this.
  10. The frame can now be pried away from the wall and removed.
  11. We will clear away any debris to prepare for the new door.
  12. It is then time to install the uPVC frame, checking to make sure it is level and flush.
  13. Then we will then lift up your door and place it into the frame, making sure it fits snugly.
  14. We will secure the hinges to the frame and ensure that they are properly aligned and secured.
  15. We will check that the door is properly aligned before securing it to the wall by driving screws through the frame.
  16. Now the door’s hardware can be installed. We will affix the handles, locks, letterboxes etc.
  17. We will then create airtight seals around the door by using high-quality sealant adhesive that is compatible with uPVC.
